Hazelwood Road, Duffield, Derbyshire
Hazelwood Road in Duffield contains many large properties of contrasting styles, but predominantly of traditional character. This plot contained a 1960’s style dwelling. Our client asked us to examine the feasibility of adding a significant extension and alteration to the dwelling; form a complete new look in traditional style; take advantage of the plot in relation to its context; take in spectacular views to the rear. The extended property consists of 450 sq.m. of generous family accommodation.
We proposed a large extension to the front and side; part demolition of the property; and proposed completely enveloping the existing dwelling with new materials. We also advised that by concentrating on the detail of the roof wallplate, we could incorporate ‘room in the roof’ trusses. This added a large amount of floor space at an economical cost. Contemporary details were proposed in the use of stone heads and cills which line through with the window openings. This gave a contemporary edge to a traditional form.
