The Team
Justin Smith Architects are a team of dedicated and skilled professionals, supplemented by outsourced specialist skills to suit individual projects. Key members are as follows:
Justin Smith
MANAGING DIRECTOR | DESIGN MANAGER | CHARTERED ARCHITECT
BA (Hons), B(Arch), RIBA
Justin spent five years at the Hull School of Architecture during 1990-1993 and 1995-1996, completing the RIBA part 1 and 2 qualifications. Justin returned to Hull in 2000 to take the RIBA part 3 exams, and thus qualified as an architect.
During 1994 and between 1996-2002 he spent several years in professional practice working for a number of leading practice’s locally, such as Rothera Goodwin (now Pick Everard), Morrison Design and Hall Grey Architects. During this time he gained considerable experience in many sectors, including; residential, hotels, laboratories, community, office and sports stadia. Project values ranged from tens of thousands of pounds to tens of millions of pounds.
Justin then set up his own practice in June 2002 and has been responsible for all aspects of the practice since then.
Simon Godrich
TECHNICAL MANAGER | SENIOR ARCHITECTURAL TECHNICIAN
HNC Building Studies (Architectural)
Simon has over 15 years experience working for a number of leading practice’s within the East Midlands. He has been involved in a diverse range of projects covering most sectors from leisure, residential, health, industrial and commercial. Most recently he has gained a wealth of experience within the retail sector, playing a key role in the delivery of Westfield Derby and other schemes within the Westfield portfolio.
Simon joined the practice in 2009 and is now responsible for the management of the technical database and delivery of all technical aspects of projects.
Richard Hall
ARCHITECTURAL TECHNICIAN & EPC ASSESSOR
BSc (Hons)
Richard has many years experience working in architectural practice having worked with leading practice’s locally. He has been involved in many project sectors covering residential, industrial and office schemes. He also has the benefit of being a qualified EPC Assessor.
Andrew Barkley
ARCHITECTURAL ASSISTANT
BA (Hons)
Andrew joined the practice in 2010 having completed his degree at Kingston University in London. Andrew is responsible for all 3d modelling carried out within the practice; organisation of the CPD programme and management of the digital library.
Kristen Neilson
OFFICE MANAGER
We were happy to welcome Kristen to the team in 2009 as office manager. Kristen is responsible for all the day to day administration of the practice.
Specialist Skills
The designs of buildings are subject to constantly evolving and complex issues. Planning legislation, sustainability issues, environmental impact assessments and building regulations are just a few issues which affect building design. We therefore bring specialist skills in-house where necessary to suit the project. These may include:
Arboriculturalists, Ecological Consultants, Sustainability Consultants, Land and Building Surveyors or Energy Consultants.
Consultants
Health and Safety during construction and use, cost control, procurement, structures, heating and lighting systems; construction is becoming increasingly diverse and will always require a team of talented professionals to get the job done. Justin Smith Architects can recommend the best design team to suit any project. We collaborate with consultants on a daily basis covering:
Structural Engineers, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, CDM Co-ordinators.
